My Father's World- Week Five

5:23 PM Liz 0 Comments

We have been plugging right along with phonics sh, ch, th, and ng! Monkey absolutely loves the student sheet mini books! We did a LOT of hands on math activities this week counting by 2's, guessing how many, sequencing and any lot of object to ten. We have been reading Little House in the Big Woods and continue to plug away.
This weeks science and next week is all about Trees. So, I combined the two!  We counted the rings on a tree stumps to see how old the tree was, we made a bark rubbing, and even searched out what kind of evergreen trees we seen based on their leaves. We went on a couple of nature hikes and I even worked the science lessons into Monkey's Cub Scout badge -Tigers in the wild!

My Father's World Week Four

5:46 PM Liz 0 Comments

This week we took it easy. I didn't push him to really do much at all. We had Bible time, Phonics, and quiet reading time .Monkey did all the Math pages the week before. We started a new read out loud book Little House In The Big Woods. That means lots of snuggles and hot cocoa.  I'll be honest we read about how a flower grows , but we didn't do the Science activity. Monkey does not like the Art book at all. This is a big bummer! I'm not pushing it with him at all. I'm in the process of trying to find something else. Any suggestions? I love that we can go at our own pace , keep what works and do away with what doesn't.

My Father's World- Week 3 ( Schooling the week of Christmas)

4:49 PM Liz 0 Comments

Sweet baby Jesus! Yes, folks we schooled the week of Christmas. I am that mean mom. ;)  This week we finished up writing the alphabet. Wahoo! We made a scroll, and introduced the short vowel sounds A,E, and I. We then worked on sorting objects, and making a dozen. We made fudge, and talked about how it is better to give than to receive. Then we made our annual blessing boxes filled with goodies for our neighbors.  It may seem like a lot, but it really wasn't.  Theses are the books we read this week : The m&m pattern book ( he loved it so much we used it for two weeks ;) ) and Madeline. With it being the week of Christmas I did add in some of our favorite Christmas books.

Helping dad make fudge! This count as Home Economics.... Right?

Sorting the yummy way with m&m's and Rolo's!

Our blessing boxes!

Spelling Word Program

5:17 PM Liz 0 Comments

We are going into week seven in MFW. Shhh.. my blog is a little behind ;) What was really bothering me is that there isn't a formal spelling lists with every week spelled out. Bah dum bump! OK, I have a cheesy sense of humor. With transitioning Monkey from Public School he is used to it, plus I want him to be a good speller. Practice makes perfect..right?  I was doing some research and came across this really awesome site www.k12reader.com. They Have a full 36 week spelling program for not only First Grade, but all the way to Fifth Grade.  Each week comes with five pages of activities. They also have a 36 week reading comprehension program that goes hand in hand with the spelling program. This is a simple. One page with half the page being a mini story and the other half questions. You guys, it's FREE!!  I couldn't keep this secret in much longer. Go on over and check it out or if your more of the type that likes a review before you use something stay tuned for my Week 6 post.

My Father's World Week Two

5:53 PM Liz 0 Comments

Another week is in the books! This week we worked on writing letters M-X.
We did a lot of hands on learning activities, and we started doing math  in The complete Book of Math. We also worked on patterns using The M&M's Color Pattern Book. ( Dino's love M&M's! )

We made a Jewish Calendar , and in Science talked about Plants and Soil. It's a toss up to say what was Monkey's favorite thing this week, but I think it might of been Science! He has started to call Friday's "Fun Friday".  I also made a work sheet to go with the Plant and Soil activity. If you are interested I can create a PDF copy. Just let me know.

This week Monkey read the Complete Adventures of Curious George to me. He is reading very well, but struggles with reading for long periods of time. So, he reads a paragraph then I will.
The books that I chose for read out louds this week are:
The Ant and the Grasshopper by Amy Lowery Poole.
Upstairs Mouse, Downstairs Mole by Wong Herbert Yee.
Are you an Ant? by Judy Allen and Tudor Humphries.

Women Living Well Bible Study- Book of Job.

1:25 PM Liz 0 Comments

Happy Sunday! I hope your day has been filled with blessing, and praising of our King. I have been apart of many bible studies, but my favorite one to follow is Women Living Well Ministries ( Good Morning Girls). Tomorrow they will start an eight week study on the book of Job. I have decided to become one of the leaders for this study. My group will be an online group with a closed Facebook group page. Here is the link:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/164103263950827/ . Once we have 25 members ( or after week one ) I will set the group to secret. I created this group in hopes that some of us homeschooling mama's could bond together over God's word. I hope you all will share your thoughts on God word and your prayer request!

You can head over to the ministries website: http://womenlivingwell.org/2015/12/introducing-the-book-of-job/. They have all kinds of free resources to help you get through the study: printable bible book mark, book of Job journal, and resources for your children! You can also purchase a longer version of the Job journal on amazon for $8.09: http://www.amazon.com/Book-Job-Journal-One-Chapter.

Women Living Well Ministries studies the word of God with a method that they call S.O.A.K and a color coding chart for different verses. You can watch an instructional You Tube Video here: https://youtu.be/ugLUHdPpUMg .

I hope you are not overwhelmed with all the links in this post! I promise that this is a simple easy quick and breezy method of meeting with our Maker everyday. I will also be posting a link on the side of my blog if anyone wishes to follow this study, but not be apart of the Facebook group.

My Father's World - Week One

8:30 AM Liz 0 Comments

We are starting this adventure a little nervous, but very excited! Week one was a breeze!  It take us maybe an hour a day to complete the assignments. I love how everything is spelled out , and user friendly. So far Monkey's favorite part of the day is his devotional book ! We made a scroll this week, reviewed how to write (properly) letters A-L, and went exploring outside.

Nothing,I mean nothing beats hearing your child's enthusiasm as he is exploring God's creation. " Mama, Mama, come look! " It brought tears of joy to hear that coming from my seven year old! It brought back memories of when he was younger and could not wait to show me everything that crossed  his path.

These are the extra books that I chose for this week:

Head over to Pinterest and follow my, My Father's World board. You can find a link on the right hand side of my blog. Everything is organized with ideas that I have used for each week!

Happy New Year!

8:02 AM Liz 0 Comments

Happy New Year!! I took a break over Christmas to stop and focus on the reason for the season. Christ our savior is born! It was great being able to spend time in prayer, and with our family.

2015 was a whirl wind. It was not the best year we have ever had, but it was not the worst.  We added a new family member (my nephew and a new puppy Maddie), my work life hit some speed bumps, my grandmother got sick, my health declined greatly (I am slowly getting stable again praise God!), Monkey broke his ankle in football, we refinanced our home, got out of debt, and finally drum roll..... made the decision to for me to come home full time, and homeschool. Whew, what a year!

Last night Monkey almost made it to midnight. We stopped as a family about 11:15 and we prayed to our Father that he would draw us close to him this year, to our family, and to keep us healthy. What a great way to start the new year! Monkey then crashed at 11:25. Cheers to 2015! We are praying that God brings you blessing in 2016 as we focus our year on faith, family, and health.
